First picture of man who died in police custody at Kirkcaldy station day after he was charged with alleged stabbing

This is the first picture of a man who died in police custody at a Scots station on Friday.

Marc Hamilton, 36, was found dead in his cell by officers at Kirkcaldy  station at around 10.30am on September 18.

He was due to appear in court the same day after he had been charged with allegedly stabbing someone the previous day.

Cops confirmed Hamilton died after being held in custody overnight.

Hamilton, from Kirkcaldy, was arrested and charged following a stabbing in the Dunearn Drive area of the town at around 2.55pm on Thursday after a 40-year-old man was found injured.

The victim was raced to to the Victoria Hospital. His condition is still unknown.

Locals reported seeing three ambulances outside the station on Friday.

A probe has now been launched over the circumstances surrounding his death.

Officers say they will fully co-operate with a Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is carrying out a Crown directed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 36-year-old man who was taken into custody at Kirkcaldy Police Station on Thursday, 17 September, 2020.
