This is the first picture of the man who died in an alleged shooting at a house in Ayrshire.
Tragic Paul Cairns was inside his home when a man entered and allegedly shot a gun before fleeing the scene yesterday afternoon.
The 42-year-old suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
His friend, Vicky Woods, who was also inside the house was unharmed but is said by friends to be inconsolable and heartbroken.
Armed police descended on Nithsdale Road shortly before 5pm yesterday afternoon after a 999 call.
A manhunt was launched for the shooter and the area was locked down, with residents being told to stay in their houses.
Forensic cops remain at the scene as they continue to scour the residential street for evidence.
A local source said: "There's all kinds of rumours going around as to what happened but guns just kicking about in Ardrossan is hard to believe."
A friend of Cairns' friend Vicky said: "It's just tragic for her and her family. She was in the house at the time and is suffering from shock. She's a nice lassie and it's a terrible shame. She lost her brother just a few weeks ago and now her partner. Heartbreaking.
"Her family is very well-known and her brother was a popular member of the community. Too much tragedy for one person to take. I hope police catch whoever is responsible."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said last night: “Around 4.50 pm on Sunday, 24 May, 2020 a 42-year-old man and 46-year-old woman were within a house in Nithsdale Road, Ardrossan when a man entered the house and discharged what is believed to be a firearm before leaving the house.
“The 42-year-old man was then found with serious injuries and died at the scene a short time later.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and are currently searching the surrounding area for the suspect and viewing CCTV in the area.”
