Glowing tributes have been paid to a kindhearted 79-year-old Scot who died in a tragic house fire alongside his beloved pet dog.
The elderly man, named locally as Stuart Smith, could not be saved despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the fire on Finavon Terrace, Dundee at around 7.20am on Sunday morning.

Four fire appliances tackled the blaze while ambulance crews battled in vain to save the life of the pensioner and his dog, Max.
A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is being carried out by Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

The house has been boarded up while the investigation takes place.
Neighbours have left flowers outside Stuart's home, paying tribute to him as a neighbour and a friend.
A poignant tribute left at the scene by a neighbour said: "Stuart, thank you for all your kindness and all the summer icecreams for the kids.
"These roses reminded us of you and the care you took tending to your roses everyday.

"You and your doggie will be so missed."
A police spokesperson said: "We received a report around 7.20am on Sunday, 17 October, of a fire at a property in Finavon Terrace, Dundee.
"Emergency services attended but a 79-year-old man sadly died at the scene.
"A dog also died at the property as a result of the fire."The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
"A joint investigation with the SFRS is still ongoing at this time.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
