First picture of boy, 9, mauled to death by dog in caravan park attack

This is the first picture of the tragic schoolboy mauled to death by a dog during family caravan park holiday.

Tragic Frankie MacRitchie, nine, was attacked by the bulldog-type mutt at around 4am on Saturday - while his mum Tawnee was in a neighbouring caravan with the dog's owner.

Other holidaymakers have told how they were woken by screams as the Tawnee cried "the dog's attacked my boy" while at the Tencreek Holiday Park in Cornwall.

A 28-year-old woman has since been arrested in Plymouth on suspicion of manslaughter and having a dog dangerously out of control, as the Mirror reports.

The woman spent 24 hours being quizzed by detectives before being released under investigation.

One holidaymaker said he saw Tawnee crying hysterically as paramedics tried desperately to save her son.

Tributes were paid to Frankie by friends and family following the horror attack at the popular holiday park.

Single mum Tawnee, of Plymouth, posted a crying emoji on a relative’s Facebook page on Saturday night.

She is separated from Frankie’s dad Billie MacRitchie, who was in regular contact with his son.

After the tragedy Tawnee also posted the last photo of her and Frankie with the caption: “Caravan life with my babes”.

Last year she wrote on her Facebook page: “Mumma’s boy always.

“Anyone who actually knows me knows how much I care about this kid and would walk to the end of the earth for him.”

A family friend wrote on Facebook this morning: “Rip little man. I still see that little cheeky smile you had.”

It was also claimed on social media today the dog which killed Frankie had carried out four previous attacks.

Ashleigh Toms, 19, told how she came across the animal and its owner minutes after the fatal attack.

She said: “I saw the dog first and thought it had run away. Then I saw this woman coming round the corner.

“She and the dog were covered in blood. The girl had it all up her leg. Her T-shirt was turned inside out.

“She asked for money to get a taxi, saying she needed to go to Saltash. I had no money but said I'd be happy to help her get the train.

“I got her a ticket. On the train she started crying her heart out - but she didn't mention anything about a dog attack.

“She got off around 8am and gave me a cuddle and thanked me. I only heard about the dog attack later. It left me in complete shock.”

He said: “It was awful. I'll never forget the sound.

“The mum was in her dressing gown outside her caravan saying her boy had been attacked by the dog.

“The ambulance arrived about half and hour later and they tried CPR but it looked hopeless.

“We'd seen the little lad dancing at the site’s club hours earlier. It’s a tragedy.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said the dog was taken to kennels following the arrest of its owner.

Tencreek Holiday Park spokesman Henry Joce said: "It is with profound sadness that Tencreek Holiday Park management can confirm that emergency services were called to an incident in a static caravan just before 5am on Saturday April 13.

"Tragically, a nine-year-old child was pronounced deceased at the scene after being attacked by a dog present in the same caravan.

"Clearly our thoughts are very much with the family involved - they have our deepest sympathies.
