First photo of girl, 2, who died from 'serious head injuries' in apartment

This is the first picture of a toddler who died after suffering head injuries in an apartment on Friday.

Santina Cauley, two, was found in a critical condition at the Elderwood complex in Cork, Ireland.

She was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save her, Irish Mirror reports.

Now a murder investigation has been launched into the death.

Devastated friends and family members paid tribute to the toddler, today pictured in a grainy photo for the first time.

One emotional tribute read: "RIP you little angel, a cruel world.

"May God give you the best bed in heaven.

"My heart is broken in two, I can't believe what has happened to you. I am so sorry, I mean it from my heart and soul.

"God bless her and I'd like to say my condolences for her."

Another added: "I'm so upset over the baby it's so sad, a little baby that could not fight back."

Local councillor Deirdre Forde said the tragedy had touched “the hearts of everybody” as they tried to come to terms with the tot’s death.

Neighbours had reported a disturbance and one theory being pursued is she may have sustained her injuries during the course of a domestic dispute.

One neighbour said there was a commotion hours earlier.

Santina's post mortem was carried out yesterday by Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster.

Since then, the Gardai confirmed the death is being treated as murder.

No arrests have been made.
