First photo of female soldier accused of cutting Glasgow woman's throat at Magaluf nightclub

This is the moment a female soldier suspected of attacking her Scottish pal with a glass in Magaluf is led into court.

The 19-year-old, named locally as Sydney Cole, was flanked by two armed guards as she arrived to be questioned by a judge in the Majorcan capital Palma.

She is believed to be accused of cutting Sarah Ann Garrity's throat at the Bananas nightclub on party resort's strip around 1am this morning.

The Glasgow born 22-year-old is said to be in critical condition in hospital after losing a large amount of blood at the scene.

This afternoon's private hearing will decide whether the accused will be remanded in custody or released on bail.

Cole, thought to be a soldier from London, said nothing as she was escorted into court with her head bowed in handcuffs, wearing blue jean shorts and a white denim jacket.

Sarah Ann Garrity is in intensive care in Palma’s Son Espases Hospital where her condition was described as “critical” this morning.

Police sources described the pair as friends. The blonde held over the assault is understood to have been arrested at the scene.

One well-placed source said earlier: “The girl who was injured suffered a cut to her throat. She was rushed to intensive care and had an emergency op.

“She’s still very serious but we’re hearing the operation has been successful and saved her life. The alleged attacker is in police custody.”

Officials in Spain have not confirmed the professions of the two women, but they have both been described as soldiers in the UK.

A source at Son Espases Hospital in Palma confirmed this morning that the injured woman was “critical” and in intensive care.

A source at an emergency response coordination centre said: “We received the first calls at 12.55am, about a fight in a nightclub between two female friends.

“The alert that came in said the incident involved a physical attack with a glass by one friend against another.”
