First photo of boy, 3, who died after being hit by Tesco van while skateboarding

The family of a little boy killed after being hit by a Tesco van outside his home have described him as a “beautifully wild, loving and funny little boy”.

Callan Hornegold was just about to turn four years old when he was killed outside his Oxted, Surrey, home.

The three-year-old had been riding his skateboard when the incident happened at around 10.40am on Sunday, June 2.

He died at around 2.05pm at East Surrey Hospital, just under two hours after police, paramedics and an air ambulance arrived at the scene, reports Surrey Live.

His inquest was opened at Woking Coroner's Court on Friday morning, where it emerged Callan had died just 11 days before his fourth birthday on June 13.

Following the inquest his family released a tribute through Surrey Police, saying: “On Sunday afternoon, our family suffered the most horrendous loss of our beautifully wild, loving and funny little boy.

“There are no words to begin to describe the pain that we are feeling.

“We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support and love that we have been shown, and are so thankful for the efforts of all the paramedics and medical staff who did their very best for our boy.

“We have a very long road ahead of us and respectfully request that we are allowed to quietly grieve alone.”
