First person in Northern Ireland to appear in court charged with health protection offences

The first person in Northern Ireland has been charged with health protection offences relating to Covid-19 restrictions.

The 46-year-old woman is due to appear in Derry Magistrates' Court tomorrow charged with breaching coronavirus restrictions in Strabane area.

She has been charged with contravening a prohibition notice and contravention of a requirement under Covid-19 regulations 3,4,6 or 7.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A 46-year-old woman has been charged with offences in relation to the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations NI 2020. 

"The offences are Contravening Prohibition Notice and Contravention of a requirement under regulation 3, 4, 6 or 7.


"The woman is due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates' Court tomorrow (Monday, 5th October). As is normal procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service."
