First of its kind Dutch Navy submarine spotted in Firth of Clyde

A ROYAL Netherlands Navy submarine was spotted in Inverclyde over the weekend and on Monday morning.

HNLMS Zeeleeuw (S803) began her sea trials in 1988 and entered service in 1990 as the first submarine of the Walrus class.

The vessel has been deployed in naval exercises and combat operations all over the world, and is also involved in intelligence operations.

She was upgraded between 2014 and 2016, and in 2017, she took part in a torpedo-firing exercise in the Bahamas.
