First Minister urges Margaret Ferrier 'to do the right thing' and step down

The First Minister has urged Hamilton West MP Margaret Ferrier to “do the right thing” and step down as an MP this morning.

Nicola Sturgeon branded the SNP parliamentarian’s actions as “dangerous and indefensible”.

In a Tweet minutes ago, Ms Sturgeon posted: “I’ve spoken to Margaret Ferrier and made clear my view that she should step down as an MP.

“I did so with a heavy heart – she is a friend and colleague – but her actions were dangerous and indefensible.

“I have no power to force an MP to resign but I hope she will do the right thing.”

MP Margaret Ferrier travelled home from London following a positive coronavirus test.

And the day before, instead of self-isolating while awaiting the results of her Covid result, she journeyed down to Westminster.

The SNP whip has been suspended and is now facing a huge backlash.
