A record 123 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Lanarkshire today.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the figures in an address to the Scottish Parliament this afternoon as it was announced that further easing of Covid-19 restrictions due on Monday, October 5, would be postponed.
Today is only the second day in which more than 100 positive cases have been confirmed in Lanarkshire - with the previous record set on September 23 when 107 new cases were announced.
At the peak of the crisis in the spring, 61 cases were confirmed on April 18 - a record that stood for almost five months.
That's now been broken five times since the beginning of September, rising from 62 on September 13 to the 123 announced today.
In total, 1415 positive tests were confirmed in September - almost a third of the 4498 cases confirmed in the region since the first was announced in March.
Last week, a record 522 cases were confirmed in the region and already this week a further 324 new cases have been announced.
The 123 cases announced today come from one test taken on Thursday, September 24; 79 taken on Tuesday, September 29; and 43 taken yesterday (September 30).
Only Greater Glasgow and Clyde (244) and Lothian (166) saw more new confirmed cases of coronavirus today than Lanarkshire.
Across Scotland, 688 positive cases and three deaths were confirmed by the First Minister today.
No new deaths were recorded in Lanarkshire, however 10 people died from coronavirus in the region in September after more than two months had passed without one.
In total, 363 people have died from coronavirus in Lanarkshire.
