First Minister: National coronavirus lockdown will not be imposed this week

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says she will not be imposing a national lockdown tomorrow similar to the one in March.

But added that no final decision had been made on what kind of restrictions may have to be imposed across the country.

Sturgeon met with members of her Cabinet this morning to discuss whether a so-called  "circuit breaker lockdown"  is needed to reduce transmission of the disease in the community.

It would have seen pubs and restaurants close for a fixed time with restrictions brought in on how far residents can travel.

But now Scots will not be expected to remain in their houses, schools will still be open, and the economy would not been shut down.

She will brief her Cabinet on Wednesday (October 7) before making a statement to the Scottish Parliament.

Sturgeon did confirm that any future measures would aim to keep schools open – saying there were no plans in place for pupils to be in classes part time.

It comes after Sturgeon yesterday warned the public it was "possible we will have to do more" and added that the 10pm curfew for bars and restaurants “is one of the areas where, to be frank, we may have to go further for a period”.
