First Minister Mark Drakeford self-isolating after contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus

Mark Drakeford is self-isolating after he came into contact with someone who has recently tested positive for coronavirus.

The First Minister of Wales is understood to not have any symptoms of Covid-19 himself but is self-isolating as a “precaution”, according to the Welsh Government.

Mr Drakeford continues to conduct his duties and has on Thursday been giving evidence to the Welsh Affairs Select Committee of MPs, something which he has carried out remotely.

According to the Welsh Government’s guidelines on self-isolation, people are advised to self-isolate for 10 days if they have been “identified as a contact of a positive case of coronavirus”.

The guidance states that: “Self-isolation means that you do not leave the house. You must self-isolate straight away if you have symptoms, are arranging a test or are identified as a contact.”

CORONAVIRUS

This means that Mr Drakeford will have to self-isolate for 10 days because he has been “identified as being in contact with someone who has coronavirus and might have caught it”.

The current seven-day coronavirus infection rate across Wales is 53.1, a rate which has been falling consistently since the Alert Level 4 national lockdown was put in place on December 20.
