People in Wales should consider shopping less to help keep coronavirus rates down, First Minister Mark Drakeford said today.
He made the comments as rules for supermarkets and shops opening during the pandemic are being made law in Wales, including visible signs to promote social distancing in stores, one way systems and sanitiser for hands and trolleys..
The First Minister insisted most supermarkets are "safe" but added that they have been places of transmission.
Supermarkets are the most common places that people have visited in the days leading up to a positive coronavirus test reported to the Test and Trace app in England in data collected last year.
Speaking at Friday's Welsh Government briefing the First Minister said Welsh Government advice was for people to meet as few people in as few places as infrequently as possible, and that should be applied to shopping too.
Asked whether people should now be asked to consider going to the shops less, he said: "Our advice is to meet as few other people as you can on as few occasions as you can and that it's sensible to think about shopping in the same way."
He said "this virus will find a way in" anywhere where people come into contact.
"Anywhere people meet there's an increased risk of this, even when places are doing everything they can.
"When there's a level of transmission of the sort we have seen in Wales this virus will find a way of getting in and some people will find themselves affected and that's true of supermarkets as any where else.
