First Minister backs campaign for suicide awareness film

A campaign to fund a Glasgow-based movie which raises awareness about suicide has been backed by some of the country's biggest names.

Scottish actor Iain Robertson launched a crowdfunder to finance his first dabble with directing, short film Bridge, just under a fortnight ago.

Now almost at the halfway mark, the project has raised more than £4,000, thanks in part to support from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, former Labour Leader Johann Lamont and Trainspotting star Kevin McKidd, who have all been spreading the word on social media.

Small Faces actor Iain is now appealing for the public to get behind the film.

Written by award-winning writer Donna Franceschild and starring celebrated actors Katy Murphy and Steven Duffy, Bridge tells the story of two strangers who meet and form a friendship when the woman is on the brink.

Mental health specialists have already approached Iain with a view to using the film as a resource when it has been completed.

He said: "If you can help us energise the crowdfund tonight by investing what you can afford, I cannot express how grateful I would be.

"No matter how small the sum, it all counts towards hitting that target & garnering momentum behind this project."

Donations to the crowd fund can be as big or small as you wish, with a raft of benefits offered to investors.
