Nov. 14--Do you want to build a snowman?
After the light snow and flurries earlier this week, the Chicagoland area is expected to get the season's first measurable snowfall this weekend. But the snow is likely not going to be sticky enough for building.
The National Weather Service is predicting clear skies and temperatures in the 30s Friday and around the 20s for Friday night. But Saturday evening is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of snow throughout the Chicago area and 2 to 3 inches in the Rockford area.
The snow is expected to be fluffy and easy to remove, said National Weather Service meteorologist Jamie Enderlen. However, it would not be the best material for making snowballs or other snow-related creations, Enderlen said.
Cold is in the forecast through the beginning of next week, with Monday and Tuesday temperatures dropping to the teens. The wind chill will make it seem like the weather is in the single digits Monday morning and perhaps even below zero Tuesday morning, Enderlen said.
Tuesday's weather may also come close to record cold with the highs expected to reach 24 degrees. The lowest high temperature on Nov. 18 was 22 degrees in 1903, Enderlen said.
