First Look: Target and Marimekko to debut a limited-edition collection in April

March 02--Fans of Marimekko's irrepressibly happy and boldly graphic designs will be pleased to learn that the Finnish textile and lifestyle brand will unveil a new line for Target April 17 to May 8 while supplies last -- and that most items will be priced under $50.

Following on the heels of the Lily Pulitzer collection, which sold out in less than a day, the Marimekko for Target limited-edition collection will feature more than 200 items spanning outdoor decor, furniture and entertaining essentials as well as beachwear, swimwear and accessories for women and girls.

The playful prints in the collection were designed by longtime Marimekko designer Maija Isola, who is perhaps best known for creating the iconic unikko (poppy) pattern in bold pink, red and black on white in 1964.

"Target pioneered the concept of design partnerships and continues to raise the bar with each new collaboration," Marimekko President Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko said in a statement. "Following the celebrated previous Target's design partnerships with brands such as Missoni, Mulberry, Jason Wu and Jean Paul Gaultier, we are very excited to present the Marimekko for Target collaboration this spring. Marimekko was created to bring colors and happiness into people's everyday lives. We are thrilled to share our storied colorful designs and lifestyle thinking, inspired by Finnish summer living outdoors, with Target's guests in almost 1,800 stores and online across the United States."

Housewares include pillows and throws, bean bags and lounge mats, napkins, placemats, table runners, serving trays, plates and drinkware.

Other items in the spring collection for outdoor living include tepees, beach towels, a paddle board, lanterns, inflatables, gardening tool sets and hammocks. The collection also features bocce ball sets and parachutes, a first for Marimekko.

Marimekko for Target will be available at all Target stores and Target.com beginning April 17. Prices range from $7.99 for sunscreen to $499.99 for the paddle board. Most items are priced under $50.
