First look of Belfast based thriller 'Bloodlands' starring James Nesbitt and Charlene McKenna released

BBC have released the first look of Belfast based thriller 'Bloodlands' starring James Nesbitt and Charlene McKenna.

From Line of Duty creator Jed Mecrurio, the miniseries will star Antrim born Cold Feet star Nesbitt as an Irish detective tasked with tracking down an evasive serial killer who goes by the name of Goliath.

Teasing the plot for for drama series, the BBC said: "When a car containing a possible suicide note is pulled out of Strangford Lough, Northern Irish police detective Tom Brannick (Nesbitt) quickly connects it to an infamous cold case with enormous personal significance.

"Bloodlands follows his hunt for the legendary assassin known as 'Goliath', an explosive cat-and-mouse game where the stakes have never been higher."

The short trailer shows main character Tom Brannick, played by Ballymena man Nesbitt, reopen a decades-old investigation into the killer, who he reveals once murdered his wife.

Monaghan born star Charlene McKenna, best known for Ripper Street and Pure Mule stars as a cop alongside Nesbitt, and is also featured in the trailer.

The cast also includes Young Offenders star Chris Walley, Derry Girls’ Kathy Kiera Clarke and Ian McElhinney.

Lorcan Cranitch (Fortitude, The Dig), Lisa Dwan (Top Boy, Trust), Lola Petticrew (A Bump Along the Way, My Left Nut), Michael Smiley (Luther, Death and Nightingales) and Susan Lynch (Happy Valley, Save Me) are also starring.

Bloodlands is the first original drama series commissioned from new writer Chris Brandon.

A premiere date has yet to be announced.
