First look inside popular coastal pub as it reopens after major refurbishment

An old Ogmore-by-Sea pub has undergone a stunning transformation to become a gastro pub. The Pelican Inn has now re-opened after the £130,000 refurbishment.

Found on Ewenny River, the pub overlooks Ogmore Castle and has been open and serving customers for nearly 300 years. Now the pub has undergone a dramatic facelift to help create a warm and welcoming environment.

Mark Newbold, who runs the pub, said: "The improvements have been made to make sure that we stick by our mantra of being a real pub, with good food, and a great atmosphere, as we look to deliver a premium dining experience to our guests whether local or visiting the area.”

The pub has a navy blue theme (Mark Lewis)

Dark navy blue is the main colour feature of the pub, creating a cool and relaxed atmosphere, set with dark brown wooden tables and chairs. This creates a nautical theme and feeling in the pub which ties in perfectly with The Pelican Inn's location.

Pelicans are, of cours,e a recurring feature throughout the pub, with the pelican logo on the sign outside, pelican artwork around the pub, and a 4ft hand-carved pelican, which was crafted by local craftsman Roger David. There are also cosy sections of the pub, including a fireplace and bar area.

The pub is well lit with yellow and amber lamps on each table. Round mirrors and other circle wall decorations add to the nautical theme.

Gold is also a main colour in the pub (Mark Lewis)

Gold is another key colour in the pub, with decorations and frames, which complements the navy blue. The outside of the pub shows off the stone walls and also has a mint green colouring.
