First look inside Merseyside school's impressive new £10m building

A Merseyside secondary school has a new state-of-the-art building following a £10m refurb.

The impressive facility boasts a brand new school hall, dining room, dedicated performing arts suite, and two floors of classrooms, among other facilities.

Staff and students at Maghull High say they're "delighted" with the new building, which was funded through the government's £2bn Priority Schools Programme.

Headteacher Davina Aspinall said: ‘ Maghull High is proud of its ethos, and our talented and committed staff are dedicated to enabling each pupil to reach his or her full potential.

"[The new building] is a wonderful opportunity for all of our students, staff and the community.

"We hope it will reflect hopes and aspirations for the future and uplift experiences at Maghull High School for all.”

The layout of the site means that disruption to student learning during the project has been avoided, with continued full use of existing buildings.

Chair of governors Geoff Howe said: "I am absolutely delighted that our staff and students are finally getting the building they deserve.

"Many years ago, a survey of schools in Sefton was conducted which identified Maghull High School as the second worst in terms of its condition. This new build has been a long time coming."

The old main block will be demolished throughout the summer, with a hand-over of the full site due in November.

Staff say they're looking forward to welcoming next year's Year 7 cohort for a visit later this month.

An official opening event is planned for Monday, July 2.

Mrs Aspinall added: "We are very proud of the pupils who study with us and look forward to welcoming you."
