First look inside Butlin's as it prepares to reopen with new Covid rules on Monday

Butlin’s is preparing to reopen its resorts to families next week, as travel restrictions on UK and overseas breaks are eased across England.

The staycation group said guests will be allowed to stay in line with Covid guidance from Monday – that’s up to a maximum of six people or two households, whichever is larger.

The company told The Mirror all three resorts - Bognor Regis, Skegness and Minehead – will open on May 17, with a new Covid-safe entertainment venue called Studio 36.

It said the new venue will allow Butlin’s to continue offering entertainment with social distancing in mind – including a new Peppa Pig show and Fleur East performances.

Speaking on Covid measures, all indoor facilities including bars and restaurants will be open as usual – with swimming pools, fairgrounds and activities like Go-Karts and Adventure Golf inviting guests as usual.

However, with social distancing in mind, there will be a reduced capacity to prevent any spread of infection.

All rides will be cleaned after they’ve been used, a spokesman said, while there will be extra sanitary checks across all three resorts – including accommodation.

Once a guest’s accommodation has been cleaned prior to arrival, a sticker will be placed on the door to show no one else has been in.

On arrival, customers will be able to use a drive-thru check-in where they will collect their room keys.

In restaurants and bars, a spokesman told us guests will have to order via its B Serve app to reduce any unnecessary mixing of crowds around venues.

Under Stage Three of Boris Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown, people will be allowed to travel abroad and enjoy UK staycation holidays, including UK hotel stays, from Monday, May 17.

This will follow on from self-contained accommodation which opened from April 12 for single households.
