First look inside Bristol's new steak restaurant Bar + Block in King Street

Steak lovers in Bristol now have a little over a week until the city's newest steakhouse opens its doors.

Bar + Block will be the fourth steak restaurant to open in Bristol in under two years when it launches at the bottom of King Street on April 23.

It looked like the site, opposite King Street Brew House, was set to become a new bar when owners Whitbread submitted a planning application for 'Bed Bar'.

Whitbread also owns The Llandoger Trow, in King Street, but it announced the iconic pub would be closing last month, instead saying Bar + Block demonstrated its commitment to the city.

But those plans must have changed somewhere along the line as the prominent unit is now going to become the ninth Bar + Block branch in the UK, with other locations including London, Nottingham, Birmingham and Leamington Spa.

The tenth branch will open in Belfast a day after Bristol's launch.

The majority of Bar + Block's restaurants are well reviewed on TripAdvisor with most of them scoring four stars and above.

Opening offer

To celebrate the arrival, the steakhouse is offering 2 for 1 on steaks from May 3-30.

All you have to do is sign up on Bar + Block's website to receive a voucher in the opening week and secure a spot.

The offer grants one free steak from the main menu when purchasing another steak of equal or greater value, excluding the Spiral Cut 10oz Fillet, Deconstructed Beef Wellington, Tira De Ancho and any cut over 10oz.

What's on the menu?

Meat-lovers will find an ever-changing selection of hand-cut steaks, from rump to ribeye, and sirloin to Bar + Block’s signature cuts like marinated spiral-cut sirloin.

People can also order the ‘Butcher’s Block’ featuring seasonal specials, each served with sides like mushroom and truffle dauphinoise and sweet potato rosti.

The menu doesn’t end at steak either. Plates like grilled lamb souvlaki, handmade beef burgers and a signature Sunday Roast Sharer are all up for grabs, alongside lighter dishes like grilled tuna with chargrilled Mediterranean vegetables, roasted red pepper sauce and rocket.

Breakfast has been given the meaty touch too, with The Bar + Block Works and steak and eggs perfect for lazy weekend brunching.

For those in a hurry the Express Menu, available from 11.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, feeds diners in a rush for less than a tenner.

On Fridays, bottles of Prosecco will be on offer for just £15 all day.
