Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology series, which shook the streaming world with Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, returns with a new focus: the man whose crimes inspired horror classics like Psycho and Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Netflix has released the first images and premiere date for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, and it looks to be even more chilling than it’s stomach-churning predecessor.
Charlie Hunnam takes on the role of Ed Gein, the reclusive 1950s Wisconsin farmer whose obsession with his mother and fascination with death led to some of the most infamous and gruesome crimes in American history.
Gein’s real-life story shocked small-town America, but its cultural impact extends far beyond inspiring a new kind of horror that has haunted Hollywood for decades.

Netflix has also released a series of moody posters featuring Hunnam as Gein, offering fans a first glimpse of the actor’s transformation.
Alongside him, the season boasts a heavyweight cast including Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, Suzanna Son, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, and Robin Weigert.
Brennan and Murphy created the series and executive produce, with Brennan also serving as writer and directing two episodes.
Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, and Carl Franklin also serve as executive producers, with Winkler directing six episodes of the season.

Hunnam, in addition to starring, is an executive producer, signalling his deep involvement in shaping Gein’s terrifying story for the screen.
The Monster anthology has already proven a global hit. Dahmer drew more than a billion viewing hours, sparked endless debate, and earned Niecy Nash a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Its follow-up, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, premiered in 2024 and is currently nominated for 11 Emmys, with winners announced at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 14.

And the franchise isn’t slowing down. A fourth season, focusing on Lizzie Borden and the axe murders of her father and stepmother, is in the works, with rising star Ella Beatty set to take the lead.
For now, all eyes are on Hunnam’s transformation into Ed Gein. The actor, known for Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim, embraces the challenge of portraying one of America’s most notorious killers, promising a season that is equal parts horrifying, fascinating, and unforgettable.
Netflix subscribers worldwide will be able to stream the third season of Monster from October 3, so brace yourselves for another deep dive into the darkest corners of true crime, brought to life by Ryan Murphy.
