First look clip from BBC Three's Normal People adaptation revealed

It's not long until Normal People hits our screens – but the first look at the drama series suggests its been worth the wait.

The preview clip of the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel sees Connell (played by newcomer Paul Mescal) and Marianne (Gentleman Jack star Daisy Edgar Jones) share their first kiss after admitting their feelings for one another.

“I’m just a little confused about what I feel,” Connell tells Marianne. “I think it’ll be awkward in school if something happened with us.”

Headstrong Marianne replies: “No-one would have to know,” before the pair edge closer to one another.

For those who are yet to read the millennial love story, Normal People follows Marianne and Connell, who we first meet as teenagers.

At school, Marianne is well-off and intelligent, yet socially awkward and unpopular. She crosses paths with the less wealthy but equally as intelligent and well-liked Connell after his mother is hired to be a cleaner at her family home.

The pair start a secret relationship away from the knowledge of their peers.

The series launches later this month (BBC)

They both apply to Trinity College Dublin – but while Marianne flourishes at college, Connell finds himself struggling. Normal People follows their journey as they fall in and out of love as they grow older.

The 12 part series launches on BBC Three as a boxset on Sunday 26th April, with BBC One airing a double-bill of episodes every Monday from 27th April.

The BBC will also be adapting Rooney’s debut novel, Conversations With Friends, next year.
