First look at the magical humpback whale people can see in Liverpool this week

Liverpool welcomed a giant humpback whale tonight at the Royal Albert Dock ahead of the River Festival.

The stunning water and light projection show features an image of a humpback whale emerging 15 metres out of the water and plunging back in,  in an expression of prowess and dominance.

The Whale Song, which also features a soundscape of whale noise, will be open to the public from Wednesday, May 29 to Sunday, June 2.at Canning Dock, from 9:45pm - 11pm.

The show lasts just six minutes, and will be repeated multiple times each night.

LCI productions, the acclaimed designers behind the artwork, said the projection is to highlight our closeness and affinity to the earth, and is a warming that we pose a threat to the planet.

The River Festival also features Changing Tides, a public art commission at the Pier Head, a New York-inspired dance extravaganza and even an installation of huge floating hand-crocheted Urchins.
