First look at Pelletstown Station, Dublin's newest train stop

Irish Rail's newest train station has finally opened its doors to the public in north Dublin.

Pellestown Station will serve the communities of Ashington and Royal Canal Park.

It is situated between Ashtown and Broombridge stations on the Dublin to Maynooth/M3 Parkway line and will get you to the city centre in as little as 12 minutes.

It will be served by 94 trains daily in total on weekdays.

This is the first new station to open on the Irish Rail network since Oranmore opened in 2013.

The station comprises two platforms, with a footbridge and accessible ramp access between platforms and to the railway.

In addition, a second footbridge and accessible ramp have been built over the Royal Canal, connecting two neighbouring communities and eliminating a 20-minute walk between Ashington and Royal Canal Park.

The footbridges will also provide a new pedestrian and cycle access point to the Canal Greenway, promoting cycling and walking, as well as opportunities to combine these with train travel.

The station was built following an investment of €10.5 million, funded by the National Transport Authority and levies collected by Dublin City Council from the development at Royal Canal Park, and has been constructed by Sisk on behalf of Irish Rail.

Speaking at the opening, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said: "I am delighted to mark the opening of Pelletstown station, the first of many new improvements we are funding on the Maynooth and M3 Parkway line.

"This new station will greatly benefit the communities of Ashington and Royal Canal Park by providing much-needed public transport options as well as cutting journey times in and out of the city.

"Making it easier for people to choose public transport and combine their cycling, walking and rail journeys will help us reach our climate goals."
