First look at Outlander’s Sam Heughan in action for new film SAS: Red Notice

Outlander fans are being given a glimpse of star Sam Heughan upping the action for his latest role after the actor revealed the first images from the set of his new film.

The Scot is starring as Special Forces operator Tom Buckingham in an upcoming action thriller based on one of Andy McNab’s bestselling novels.

SAS: Red Notice sees Heughan play a suspended special forces operator who is taking his girlfriend from London to Paris to propose.

En route through the Channel Tunnel their train is hijacked by a group of heavily armed mercenaries, led by US actor Ruby Rose.

The film, which premieres in cinemas and on Sky Cinema on March 12 also stars Andy Serkis, Noel Clarke and Tom Wilkinson.

Speaking to Total Film, Sam explained that he's done a lot of action scenes in his career but "never like this".

He joked that talking to Andy McNab about what was involved was "kind of scary", he said: "Talk to Andy McNab about how to kill a man with a phone, and he'll tell you how to do it. And he'll tell you in full detail."

Interestingly, Sam's character is described as "good functional psychopath" in the new film.

It will be intriguing to see how the star sinks his teeth into this new role.

Outlander fans can look forward to a lot more Sam this year, with season 6 of the hit show about to begin filming again.

The Dumfries-born star is also set to debut his exciting new travel show 'Men in Kilts' on Valentine's Day, which he filmed with fellow Outlander star Graham McTavish.

He'll also be starring alongside Celine Dion and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in romantic drama, Text For You, which is set to be released later this year.
