First look at new Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon as start date confirmed

Game of Thrones' brand new prequel spinoff House of the Dragon is currently in the works as the main series, which starred Kit Harington and Lena Hedley, concluded in 2019.

Fans will be overjoyed to see HBO, which is creating the new series, has released a new sneak preview with the original concept art including drawings of the stunning dragons.

The channel has also confirmed that production for the show will be kicking off in 2021.

House of the Dragon takes place before the Game of Thrones times, and will focus on the Targaryen family, who are the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen, who was played by Emilia Clarke.

It is based on George R R Martin's Fire & Blood novel, which he published in 2018.

WarnerMedia, which owns HBO, also released an exciting first look at concept art via the CEO Jason Kilar's blog.

The pictures were also tweeted from the official Game of Thrones Twitter account, alongside the message: "Dragons are coming. #HouseoftheDragon begins production in 2021."

The tweet has already racked up more than 100,000 likes with fans sharing their excitement for the new instalment.

House of Dragon is still in the earliest stages of creation and so it is likely the premiere date will be 2022.

The first major cast announcement was Hot Fuzz and Peaky Blinders star Paddy Considine, who is playing King Viserys I Targaryen.

It is set around 300 years before the original series, at a time where the Targyarens ruled the seven kingdoms, mostly thanks to their dragons.

According to reports, Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, who directed the iconic GOT episodes Battle Of The Bastards and The Winds Of Winter, are helping to direct House Of The Dragon.

Sapochnik will also direct the pilot and additional episodes, as HBO has signed on for a ten episode series, according to an Entertainment Weekly story.
