First look at Netflix musical The Prom starring Meryl Streep and James Corden

A trailer for Netflix 's musical The Prom has leaked early on YouTube.

The preview had been scheduled for release on December 11, but the streaming giant has given eager fans a look at the unlisted link ahead of time.

The Prom follows the journey of Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (James Corden) as New York City stage stars who are left out of a job when their expensive Broadway show flops.

Out of work Dee Dee and Barry join their fellow Broadway stars Angie Dickson (Nicole Kidman) and Trent Oliver (Andrew Rannells) on a mission to Indiana to help student in need Emma.

The gang get involved after hearing her prom was cancelled because she wanted to go with her girlfriend

The unlisted teaser link shows the drama unfold in the glitzy new Christmas film, directed by Ryan Murphy.

The group battle to make sure Emma's prom goes ahead by creating their very own exclusive show.

It ends up being a night to remember for the high school student as she's surprised with an incredible event.

Netflix released the official trailer today, two months before the film is meant to make its debut on the streaming service.

Excited fans haev already been taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the upcoming festive flick.

One wrote: "Holy s**t. "The Prom" featuring Meryl Streep, Nichole Kidman, and Kerry Washington [heart eye emoji]."
