Doctor Who is back on New Year's Day and if the new trailer is anything to go by, it's set to be a corker of a show.
Entitled Eve of the Daleks, the festive episode is the first of three Doctor Who specials airing in 2022.
Jodie Whittaker will be joined in the action by guest stars Aisling Bea, Adjani Salmon and Pauline McLynn as well as regulars Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop).
In dramatic scenes, the gang find themselves joining forces to combat the Daleks, who they find themselves stuck in a time loop with.
Aisling's character Sarah runs ELF storage, which is visited by customer Nick, played by Adjani, but it's a race against time to see if either of them make it out of the facility alive before being exterminated.
Show-runner Chris Chibnall said: “We all need a little romance in our lives around New Year. Less so, Daleks.
"But Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon’s characters will have to deal with both in a New Year’s Eve from hell.
Together with Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor, it’ll hopefully prove the perfect New Year’s Day tonic.”
Jodie's final episode as the Doctor will air next autumn, Doctor Who has officially announced.
The BBC One series shared the news over Twitter, confirming that the Thirteenth Doctor will bow out of the show as part of the BBC Centenary celebrations.
Chris is also leaving the smash-hit franchise having been Doctor Who's executive producer and head writer since 2016.
Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s creator, told The Sun that it “broke his heart” whenever a Doctor Who resigned.
"But it’s too soon to be sad, there’s going to be a whole new season of Jodie’s Doctor. And she’s going to fight the Weeping Angels," he said.
The new Time Lord is yet to be officially announced although several actors have been rumoured to potentially succeed the 39-year-old actress.
Following Jodie’s performance as the first-ever female Doctor Who, actress Michaela Cole could step in as the show’s first ever black female Time Lord.
However despite being a potentially groundbreaking signing, the 34-year-old actress might not be able to fit Doctor Who in her busy schedule, which includes being recently cast in the next Black Panther instalment.
Another name in the hat is comedian Richard Ayoade.
The 44-year-old actor rose to fame following his role as the socially awkward IT technician Maurice Moss in Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd.

In 2014, Richard won a BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance as a result of his performance on the sitcom.
And in a real boost to his popularity, a new poll published by the Independent revealed that Doctor Who fans had voted the London-born actor as their first pick to take over from Jodie Whittaker.
The second Doctor Who special airs in spring and Jodie’s final feature-length special (in where the Thirteenth Doctor will regenerate), will transmit in autumn 2022 as part of the BBC’s 100th anniversary.
