First look at Channel 4's Wagatha Christie drama starring Michael Sheen

Channel 4 has dropped the first trailer for Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama. The highly anticipated two-part series follows the "Wagatha Christie" court case.

The drama-documentary has a star-studded cast list including This Is England actress Chanel Cresswell as Coleen Rooney and Harry Potter star Natalia Tena as Rebekah Vardy. Welsh actor Michael Sheen, who is known for his portrayals of real-life figures, takes on the role of Coleen Rooney's high-profile barrister David Sherborne, while Dion Lloyd, who hails from Bangor, has been cast as footballer Wayne Rooney.

All four feature in the new 20-second teaser shared by Channel 4 that shows Vardy being grilled by Rooney's barrister. The clip starts with Coleen saying: "For a few years now, someone who I trusted has been consistently informing The Sun newspaper of my private posts."

The drama then moves to the courtroom as Vardy takes to the witness box and Sherborne, played by Sheen, questions: "Mrs Vardy, would you say you respect other people's privacy" to which she replies: "Yes, I do."

The camera then pans to Coleen, played by Cresswell, who looks on as she sits next to her husband Wayne, played by Dion. Viewers will recognise Dion from his role in Sundance Now and Channel 4 drama The Light in the Hall/Y Golau. You can read more about Dion here.

Speaking about the programme earlier this year, the head of factual entertainment at Channel 4, Alf Lawrie said: "More outlandish than a storyline from Footballers Wives, this High Court case gripped the nation.

"Now, using court transcripts, this factual dramatisation will allow viewers to see for themselves the courtroom drama in one of the most infamous trials of recent times, bringing to life a case that encapsulated so much about the British cultural landscape in the 21st century."

While Vardy V Rooney: A Courtroom Drama has not yet been given an air date, Channel 4 has promised it will be coming soon. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
