First look as the I'm A Celebrity stars take on their first challenges

The new series of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has kicked off with a harrowing journey to the jungle, and it was never going to be easy.

Ten celebs have been transported out of their comfort zones to spend three weeks in the Australian bush, with a whole host of surprises along the way on the 19th series of the hit reality show.

And in an entrance dubbed by ITV as one of the most elaborate to date, the stars had to complete one of three routes to camp – either by skydive, canoe or walking a plank.

This year's celebs are ex-footballer Ian Wright, former Girls Aloud pop star Nadine Coyle, Rak-Su singer Myles Stephenson, Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts, comedian Andrew Maxwell, former EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa, Capital Radio DJ Roman Kemp, ex-England rugby player James Haskell, Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway and reality star and Olympian Caitlyn Jenner.

The drama, in scenes to be screened on ITV tomorrow night, began with stars arriving by boat having a race to swim to shore, with the winner having the chance to pair up with any one of the five on land.

Once they were teamed up in pairs, they would fight to become one of two Power Pairs who would enjoy special privileges on the journey and in the jungle.

The last one would get no choice of partner.

Three pairs - Ian and Jacqueline, Roman and Myles and Kate and Andrew - made their way by helicopter to The Focus Building in Australia's Surfers Paradise and were greeted by a structure 334 feet above the ground.

This time the infamous plank challenge was tougher than ever because not only did each celebrity have to go out, but also down.

In pairs they had to walk to the end of the plank which was suspended off the edge of the building, then climb down the ladder.

Meanwhile Nadine, Caitlyn, James and Adele made their way in helicopters to the edge of the jungle to The Pontoon of Doom challenge with pontoons containing coloured tokens.

The pair who retrieved the tokens in the quickest time would become the final power pair.

James and Adele had to canoe downstream to retrieve the tokens while Nadine and Caitlyn had to skydive from 10,000 feet to collect the keys to the locked pontoons.

Declan Donnelly is back to host the show, reunited in the jungle with his co-presenter Ant McPartlin.

Sharing a photo of themselves in a speed boat in Australia's Gold Coast they said: "On our way to meet the class of 2019."

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! is screened Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
