First Leith apartments in former art deco cinema hit the market, take a look inside

The first apartments inside a former art deco cinema in Leith have hit the market and they are set to be some highly sought-after real estate.

The State Cinema on Great Junction Street opened in 1938 with a screening of "Boots and Saddles". After closing in 1972, the cinema underwent various incarnations, including a church and, more recently, Mecca State Social Club.

As reported by Edinburgh Live, the cinema was on a list of historic buildings which was classed as one of the capital's at-risk buildings, with time running out for this hidden and quirky gem.

However, Glencairn Properties since got the go-ahead to convert the B-listed building in flats last year and the first apartments have now hit the market at 200 Great Junction Street.

The developers proposed several changes to the building, reinstating the window at the stairwell and amending plans to keep the original foyer.

Apartments currently on offer through Rettie here include everything from studio apartments, to two-bed pied-a-terre and three-bed penthouse apartments, with prices ranging from £215,000-£440,000.

The properties offer a choice of styles and layouts and some will even feature balconies with spectacular views looking out over the Water of Leith, Coalie Park and towards The Shore.

According to Rettie, there has unsurprisingly already been plenty of interest in the apartments, which are now available to view.
