First lady Melania Trump praises 'strength and resilience' of Texans

WASHINGTON _ First lady Melania Trump spoke little during a stop through Harvey-ravaged Texas on Tuesday, but in a statement from the White House, is now praising the people of Texas affected by the storm.

"What I found to be the most profound during the visit was not only the strength and resilience of the people of Texas, but the compassion and sense of community that has taken over the state," Trump said in a statement released Tuesday evening, also noting: "I want to be able to offer my help and support in the most productive way possible, not through just words, but also action."

The first lady traveled to Corpus Christi with President Donald Trump, who pledged a robust federal response to the disaster.

It wasn't her words, but footwear, that seemed to gain the most attention. The former model left Washington in a pair of black stiletto heels, but arrived in Texas sporting white sneakers and a black cap that read "FLOTUS."

Trump's spokeswoman dismissed the high heel hubbub, according to multiple reports: "It's sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes."
