First Jet2 flights in months take off from Glasgow to popular holiday destinations

The first Jet2 holiday flights in months have taken off from Glasgow Airport today.

They are the airline's first flights from Glasgow in months after planes across the country were grounded due to lockdown.

Both flights departed from Glasgow for Greece, with the first taking off at 6.10am for for Kefalonia and the second departing at 11.10am for Zakynthos.

Jet2 had previously confirmed they would resume flights and holidays to popular holiday destinations from Scotland today.

However, earlier this month, the airline cancelled all flights for the coming weeks from Scotland to Spain following the Scottish Government's announcement about quarantine rules for overseas travellers.

Last week, Nicola Sturgeon announced the country will not be exempt from quarantine rules, contrary to the UK Government. Spain and Serbia are the only two destinations exempt from travel corridors but the list of 57 other countries is expected to be reviewed on July 20.

Jet2 has cancelled all flights from Glasgow Airport to Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands until July 25, with flights to Cyprus, Portugal and Madeira from UK airports also cancelled until August 1.

The airline will also no longer fly to Barcelona Reus or Girona Airport until the summer of 2021.
