First images of plans for housing estate on green fields in Gorseinon, Swansea

A developer has unveiled plans to transform farmland in Swansea into a new housing estate.

Pobl's plan would turn Pencefnarda Farm in Pencefnarda Road, Gorseinon, currently greenfield agricultural land, into the site of 43 affordable homes, if approved by Swansea Council.

It would be a "suburban-style" development, with each of the houses two-storey.

Documents submitted by Pobl read: "The proposed development will provide 43 affordable homes, in a sustainable and attractive residential development.

"The accessible, connected layout will create a welcoming healthy, and sociable place to live and visit.

"The development proposals will contribute to creating sustainable places by having regard to the context of the local, natural and built environment."

If approved, there would be 43 affordable homes built by Pobl (Geraint John Planning)

Despite its green location, Pobl insists its aim is to retain and enhance, "where possible", the existing landscape fabric of the site "whilst assimilating the site within its urban context".

The site would also feature natural play features within a 'public open space area' to the north-east of the site.

The area would incorporate "informal recreational routes, open areas of grassland, naturalistic play features and planting that works with the contours of the land."

Comments have been left from residents in the area as part of a pre-application consultation, however, with many expressing their concerns over road safety when accessing the site, something agent Geraint John Planning, which is handling the application, says will be a key consideration to ensure the access is "safe as it can be" for old and new residents.

Swansea Council's planning department will now consider the bid.
