First glimpse of stunning 3D holograms coming to Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena as part of moon landings show

Here’s the first look at cutting-edge 3D holograms that are set to light up Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena in an out-of-this world musical event marking the 50th anniversary of the moon landings.

The stunning 3D holograms, rarely seen in the UK, will feature along with a 50-piece orchestra and huge light show on July 27 as part of Interstellar, an ambitious musical event marking 50 years since Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon’s surface.

Projected into a special mesh-like netting above the crowd and performers, the incredible moving holograms are will provide a high-tech backdrop for the show at the Bolero Square venue.

The two-hour concert will see the Limelight Orchestra perform the best known songs with a space theme, from Elton John’s Rocket Man to David Bowie’s Space Oddity and The Final Countdown by Europe.

“This is going to be an amazing event in an incredible location,” said Paul Brindley, of organisers Secret Symphony.

“These 3D holograms have to be seen to be believed – they are cutting edge stuff. We are only releasing a glimpse of what the audience can expect, because we don’t want to spoil the effect.

“The Limelight Orchestra are an amazing and diverse collection of musicians and vocalists who put on an incredible show, and we have selected songs that will make the most of their abilities, as well as filling the venue with space-age sounds.

“The combination of the themed light show, 3D holograms, a 50-piece orchestra with vocalists and the huge scale of the arena will provide a fitting way of celebrating half a century since man made it to the moon.

“This will be one of the biggest musical nights in the Midlands this year.”

Songs featured on the night also include Sleeping Satellite by Tasmin Archer, Man on the Moon by REM and Mr Blue Sky by ELO.

The Nottingham show is the biggest on the tour that includes cathedrals in Lichfield, Birmingham and Coventry, as well as at Lincoln Showground.

“We’re very excited about all the Interstellar events,” Paul said, “but the Nottingham one feels extra special – because it’s by far the biggest venue and has the scale and acoustics to do the show justice.

“The Motorpoint Arena has seen some amazing acts over the years and some incredible light shows, but it has never have seen anything like this before – our 3D holograms have the wow factor.”

Interstellar, Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham on Saturday, July 27, 7.30pm, tickets are £28.40 from Seetickets (price listed already includes admin fee).
