First Glasgow cancel number of bus journeys into city today due to driver shortage and 'sickness absence'

Bus operator First Glasgow has announced a series of short-notice journey cancellations concerning a number of services in the Greater Glasgow area today (September 30).

They blame both the current national driver shortage and 'higher-than-usual levels of sickness absence' for the cancellations, which mean that nine services are 'not expected to operate'.

The service update announcing the cancellations reads: "Due to the current national driver shortage which is affecting all sectors, and higher-than-usual levels of sickness absence, the following journeys are not expected to operate.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please do not take any issues out on our team who are at work and operating our other journeys – it's not their fault. They, like everyone else, are trying their best to operate as good a service as possible.

"Please keep checking back for updates, as some services that are currently listed as cancelled may be reinstated at short notice."

The services in the Greater Glasgow area which affected by the cancellations are:

Service 18 - Greenhills via Glasgow City Centre
Service 21 - Glasgow City Centre - East Kilbride, Gardenhall
Service 201 - Hairmyres to Petersburn
Service 226 - Hillhouse - Hamilton Town Centre - Fairhill

Service 255 - Hamilton to Buchanan Bus Station
