First football played at Everton new stadium site Bramley-Moore Dock in Neymar-inspired tournament

Football was played on the site of Everton's new stadium for the first time on Saturday.

The national finals of Neymar Jr's Red Bull Five event - a game invented by the Brazilian himself - were contested inside a hanger at Bramley-Moore Dock.

More than 1,000 regional teams entered the tournament with the best 12 men's teams being joined by three women's outfits on Merseyside. Each goal in the ten minute games leads to the opposition losing a player and draws were settled with a one-v-one golden knockout.

Kings 5s ultimately lifted the men's tournament in the very space where Everton hope to be turning out in several years time while Cov Uni took home the women's trophy.

Both sides will now be the United Kingdom's sole representatives in the world finals staged in Sao Paulo next month where Neymar Jr. himself is invited as a special guest.

Everton are on course to submit planning applications to the appropriate authorities for Bramley-Moore in the second half of 2019.

The second stage of public consultation, which includes the latest designs of the stadium, begins on July 26th.
