First footage from Wallsend street as man is taken to hospital following 'assault'

This was the scene after detectives cordoned off a road in Wallsend.

Officers have closed off part of O'Hanlon Crescent while investigations are being carried out.

The North East Ambulance Service said a man who was bleeding from a wound has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

A spokesman said: "We were called at around 5.30am this morning to a street in Wallsend following reports of an assault.

“We dispatched a paramedic ambulance, two Hazardous Area Response Teams and a HEMS (air ambulance) car.

“We treated one man at the scene who was bleeding from a wound before taking him to the RVI.”

The police cordon is covering the junction with Churcher Gardens and a nearby field.

A police car remains at the scene with an officer standing guard.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “We are investigating an assault at the address which was reported to us at 5.32am this morning.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
