Emergency services are currently responding to reports of a "stand-off" in Newcastle.

Fire crews were called to the scene near Cowgate just after 9pm on Saturday night. It's believed that police were called to the area at the same time.

A cordon was put in place and a large presence of officers remained on scene overnight.

Witnesses at the scene have reported that the incident is a stand-off involving a man on the roof of a home on Blakelaw Road.

ChronicleLive understands that the man has been on the roof since around 7pm on Saturday night.

One witness, who did not wish to be named, said: "It was around 7pm all the police showed up to a man on the roof. He's been up there all night, probably around 14 hours now.
"He's been using tiles as missiles. It's not something you see everyday."
On Sunday morning, the cordon remains in place and two officers from the fire service also remain at the scene.

ChronicleLive have contacted the Northumbria Police for further information.
