This is the scene after a fire broke out at a recycling centre in the early hours of the morning.
The fire broke out at Campground Waste and Recycling Centre in Gateshead at around 2.30am on Sunday.
Footage from the scene shows smoke billowing into the air, which can be seen from miles around.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has seven appliances, two aerial ladder platforms and two duty officers at the scene.
A spokesman for the fire service said crews are expected to remain at the scene "for a while".
People have been told to avoid the area.
