First footage from the scene as fire breaks out in Byker Wall flats

This is the scene after a fire broke out at flats in Byker Wall.

Emergency services were called to Dalton Crescent at around 9am on Tuesday.

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed five appliances arrived at the scene to tackle the blaze.

The fire is in a top floor flat and all people are accounted for.

The cause of the fire is unknown and emergency services remain at the scene.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire Service said: "Our control team took 19 emergency calls from passers by reporting the incident.

"The fire is in a top floor flat and all people are accounted for."

The North East Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at 8;57am to a fire at Byker Wall in Newcastle.

"We dispatched one crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team and treated and discharged one patient."
