This was the scene in Birtley following a serious crash.
Emergency services were called to Portobello Road at around 4.45 pm on Thursday.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said one person has been taken to hospital following a collision.
The spokesman said: "We were called at 4.43 pm to a road traffic collision on Portobello Road in Birtley.
"We dispatched three crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team, two ambulance crews and an officer.
"We transported one patient to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
A number of police officers and vehicles can be seen in the area.
A large section of the road has been cordoned off by police as officers carry out their investigations.
Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment.
