First footage from the scene after weapon is fired at the window of a home in West Denton

An investigation is under way after a weapon was fired at a window in Newcastle.

A police cordon is in place at the scene near West Denton Way on Tuesday afternoon and a police car remains at the scene.

Police have confirmed that an "air weapon" was fired at the window of a home in the area and that is is being dealt with as part of an ongoing investigation named Operation Benelli.

First footage of the scene shows a police presence on the scene near to a taped off area.

Officers are also asking for any witnesses to come forward to help them with their inquiries.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "As part of an ongoing investigation by the Op Benelli team, officers found a window at a property on Fordmoss Walk had been damaged by an air weapon.

"Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

"Anyone with information can contact police via our website, using the Tell Us Something page, quoting log 55 061020."
