First footage from the scene after man killed during police chase in Spennymoor

This is the scene where a man has died following a police chase in County Durham.

Police were in pursuit of a Nissan Primera in the Spennymoor area at 2.30pm when there was a collision in Central Drive, Middlestone Moor.

The air ambulance was dispatched at 2.44pm while the North East Ambulance Service sent to ambulances, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a rapid response vehicle to the scene.

Despite their efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: "At around 2:30pm today, officers from Durham Constabulary commenced a vehicle pursuit in the Spennymoor area involving a Nissan Primera.

"Following a brief pursuit, the incident ended in a collision in Central Drive, Middlestone Moor.

"The driver of the vehicle, who is not being named at this stage, suffered fatal injuries.

"We have referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)."

Dozens of police officers are visible at the scene with a huge cordon being imposed on Central Drive.

More than 100 residents have taken to the streets around the cordon, many of whom are in shock.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call at 2.36pm to a road traffic collision on Hawthorn Road in Middleton Moor.

"We sent to ambulances, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a rapid response vehicle to the scene."
