First footage from the scene after man is knocked over on Gateshead road

A man has been taken to A&E with head injuries after being knocked over in Gateshead.

The pedestrian was involved in a collision with a car on Sunderland Road in Felling just after 6am on Thursday morning.

Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.

Footage taken at the scene this morning shows officers carrying out investigation works on the road close to the Moore Street and Howe Street junctions.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called just after 6am this morning to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

“We sent a double-crewed ambulance, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a rapid response vehicle.

“We have taken one male patient with head injuries to the Royal Victoria Infirmary A&E.”

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police added: “We are still dealing with the incident and it is expected that the road closure will be in place for another couple of hours.”
