A specialist search team is working at an address in Sunderland.
Forensic investigations have been taking place inside the home after police arrived in the area overnight.
Neighbours who live in the Amy Street area of Southwick say there has been a police presence, including search teams, on the street since around 9.30pm on Friday.
Specialist search teams have been seen in the area throughout Saturday and there were reports of a the bomb disposal squad on the street earlier.
Footage from the scene shows a police car and two search team vans.
Forensic officers have been seen going in and out of an address dressed in full body suits.
The street has not been cordoned off and the investigation seems to be taking place inside the home.
Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment on the ongoing incident.
