The first foal sired by 2018 Cartier Horse of The Year Roaring Lion has been born.
The colt, out of six-year-old Azamour mare Counterweight, arrived on January 11 at Jeffrey and Phoebe Hobby’s Brightwalton Stud.
From the only crop left by the four-time Group One winner, following his untimely death in August 2019, the offspring is said to be doing well.
“He is a well-made, attractive colt with plenty of athleticism," said manager Sean Keane.
"He is full of energy and is a joy to be around. The Hobbys are delighted with him.”
Roaring Lion died last summer after a battle with colic, which began after he left quarantine for the covering season in New Zealand.
Qatar Racing's winner of the 2018 Coral Eclipse, Juddmonte International, QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes was the flagship stallion for Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire.
Vets battled to save the four-year-old son of Kitten's Joy by carrying out several operations last summer, which involved removing a section of his small intestine.
After he suffered further complications, the decision was made to put him to sleep on welfare grounds, which devastated his owner Sheikh Fahad al Thani, David Redvers and everyone close to him.
