First flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to Newquay sells out as beach holiday flights return

Beach holidays are officially back in business thanks to Eastern Airways.

The regional airline relaunched its service from Leeds Bradford Airport to Newquay Cornwall Airport on Friday - making it possible for holidaymakers to hop on a flight to somewhere near to the seaside.

With many in Yorkshire and across the UK hoping to getaway in the coming months, it’s no surprise the first official flight was sold out - and demand for the service is expected to thrive in the coming weeks, Business Live reported.

General manager of Eastern Airways, Roger Hage, said he was “delighted” to return to operating the Newquay Cornwall Airport services.

He said: “Bringing this service back as the first operator into Newquay is part of our wider return.

“As passenger confidence increases following the UK’s relaxation of restrictions, we want to ensure the right services and frequency is being offered. Eastern Airways is all about supporting the regions of the UK, connecting people and places, so both restoring and adding further services at hubs we already serve is another crucial part of increasing connectivity and aiding economic recovery.”

Eastern Airways plans to operate up to five Newquay services on a weekly basis .

This will see the return of the Southampton and Teesside service, in addition to the Leeds Bradford service.

Mr Hage noted that Eastern Airways had continuously served “key points” in the UK non-stop throughout all of the lockdowns.

He said: ”Now as the UK’s regional airline, we are proactively and carefully re-introducing services such as Leeds-Bradford to Newquay service, adding new routes across the UK over the coming weeks and even beginning Southampton and Birmingham to the British Territory of Gibraltar during May.”
